Yorkipoo

Yorkipoos are a cross between Yorkshire Terriers and Poodles. They are therefore classified as part of the toy group although they are not yet a recognized breed. They combine the best of both breeds; they have the sweet nature of Yorkshire terriers and the bright and perky antics of poodles.

They will have silky, non-shedding hair which can be curly, wavy or straight. Depending on their parents size they can range from between height 7 - 12 inches and weight 4 - 15 pounds.

These dogs are easy to train and very quick to learn tricks due to the determination it gets from yorkies and the intelligence and quick wit of the poodle. They can however be pretty stubborn. They are pretty easy to housebreak, although as with Yorkshire terriers the males tend to be a bit harder.

As with Yorkshire Terriers, they make excellent watch dogs. They will let you know loud and clear if anyone tries to get near your house!!

These dogs are ideal indoor pets and although they love going for long walks they do not demand too much hard exercise.

The mixed breed has been specifically bred as a non-shedding dog which also makes it a great dog for people who suffer from allergies.

Regarding health they are usually very healthy and up to now have had less genetic problems than both Yorkshire terriers and poodles. Their lifespan is expected to be between 10-14 years.

All of this however obviously depends on whether your pet has been bought from a good breeder. It is very important whenever breeding yorkipoos that the parents must always be a purebred Yorkshire terrier and a purebred poodle. The mother should also be the bigger of the two in order to avoid any birthing difficulties should the puppy get too big.

Please make sure that you buy your dog from a reputable breeder who will most likely have the best interest of the dog at heart not that of their pockets!!
