Yorkie pup won't drink water?

by Ed
(Longview, TX)

Question

Seems like she has an aversion! We have to mix milk with her food to get her to take in liquids at all.

She seems perfectly healthy otherwise...rambunctious and playful.

She's about 8 1/2 weeks old...was born on Halloween.

Is this normal for yorkie pups?

Answer

This does seem to happen to quite a few yorkies. Try putting the water in a small bowl as when it is in a big bowl they won't like it.

Start by wetting your fingers in the water and letting her lick it off. Once she starts doing this start moving your fingers closer to the water bowl and hopefully she will start drinking from there.

You can also try giving her water with something else in it that might make it a bit more appetising for her in case it is the taste she doesn't like. Possibly some honey?

Just be careful with giving her milk as dogs are intolerant to lactose and it could cause her to have an upset tummy.
