Question

We got 3 year old yorkie from a friend about 3 weeks ago.

We have 26 year old grandchild than live with us and she is deaf.

The dog and her are great together sit in room all day sleep together never want to leave her side.

But I am trying to say is he does not like being with me or my husband we try hold him he will hide by grandchild.

He gets so upset when I hold him he shakes, he want be with my grandchild all the time.

All I want to do is be his friend, he is so afraid of me.

What can I do?

Answer

Awwww it seems like your yorkie has taken a real liking to your granddaughter.

Is he already trained? He might benefit from a bit socialising training, as judging by what you have just written he doesn't take too well to all people.

Never force him to be with you, when he comes to you then give him positive attention. I believe if you start training him in certain things that he might be lacking you will build a natural bond with the dog.

This is what I have found with my dogs, I have been the one to train them and I notice that they have a different bond with me, even though they get along with the whole family.

Also, if you are the one who feeds him, let him see you setting out his food, this will also be something that will make him look at you in a different light :)

I have heard of this.......... Speak to your Yorkie in a soft sweet tone and get down on your knees or sit on the floor. Let your Yorkie come to you, be consistent. Maybe place a treat down beside you or try to offer it to your Yorkie. Calmly and softly speak to your Yorkie. Yorkies are so Amazing!
