Title

Runt of the litter

by Anita

Question

What is the difference between runt of the litter and regular size?
Is one better than the other. The female was the runt of the litter and males were all normal. What would possibly be the problem with the runt oppose to the regular size puppies long term?

Answer

The runt of the litter is simply the smallest pup in the litter. The smallest pup might therefore be regarded as a weaker yorkie. Problems it might face at first is fighting with its' siblings for food.

As long as it gets the right amount of food and nutrients there is no reason to think that it will encounter any health problems. Nowadays the runts of litters live to ripe old ages too.

If you have any reason to believe the yorkie might not be healthy, I would suggest having a vet check for any underlying health problems.
