Title

Help! Is it me or my Yorkie Bentley?

Bentley is 7 months old. We have had him for about four months. This is our first Yorkie and we have no one to ask if he is a normal Yorkie or not? We have had Old English Mastiffs, Airdales, and a Wired Haired Fox, so we know terries can be a hand full. But this beautiful little six pound puppy is the hardest one ever. He is so destructive. He has chewed furniture all over the house, tears about any and all objects he can sneak in and get. I can't leave him alone for even a minute! When I am in the room with him, he knows not to do these things, the second I am gone, he does it!!

Perhaps if we were younger, this would be cute or funny, but we are retired and just can't keep up! To be honest, I am thinking of looking for someone who would love him as much as I do, and letting them have him. This makes me cry each time I think of it. But, it might be the best thing for both of us???

Any thoughts? Have any of you felt this way? What did you do?

Hi I had a yorkie for 15 years and he was no trouble at all.

I have since got a little girl she is 5 months and a nightmare she even has started jumping on table and pulling of mugs ect

I brought a small crate and started crate traing. It was a godsend all her bedding toys ect are in it with her I leave her in there when she is very excitable and it has a calming effect it also helped me potty train her which was a nightmare as she would pee any where.

Also when I have to leave her on her own I leave her in the crate for up to three hours in day and she stays in it all night with no problems crate training has saved my sanity and house from further damage

Dear Anita, it is not unusual for Bentley to chew on stuff.

I too went through a period of time where my Romeo would chew on anything he could find.

Check out your local pet store -- there are things you can rub on furniture, etc., to prevent him from chewing.

Also, please give him lots of chew toys so he has variety and won't bore quickly. I am happy to say that Romeo stopped his chewing habit before he was 1 (he will be 2 on Tuesday).

Love your Bentley because Yorkies are great and will return the love ten-fold.

Hi

We have two Yorkie pups one 13 weeks the other 10 weeks.

We keep them in a pen when we are not in or leave the room to prevent chewing.

They sleep in there at night as well. Our 13 week puppy Lottie does not mind the pen and seems to understand that it is a temporary thing her sister Hana is not so good but settles after a moaning for a little while.

The pen is made of a material like a rucksack and is sold as a travel crate but we got the large size and have a nice double dog bed in it rug toys etc..

What we do is not to be confused with crate training it is just a safe place for them when we are out or asleep. This means they are always supervised when out of the pen/crate.

Hi Irene again

To continue - Both Lottie and Hana due to the use of the pen do not get the chance to chew furniture.

When they try to out of the pen we just give them toys to chew and are very firm. i know that they still have the teething stage to go through so watch this space!!!

I think anything is worth a try so you can keep Bentley.
