8 Month old Yorkie still not toilet trained!

by About to give up!

I have a 8 month old Mini Yorkie who refuses to learn the difference between going to the toilet inside or out.

We did all the right things by keeping her in a cage, using training mats, putting her outside every hour etc.

She's taken out twice a day and knows to poo and wee outside.

The problem is she never shows any signs of needing the toilets once inside, she will just go whenever wherever.

Any suggestions on how to solve this will be much appreciated!

Housebreaking a Yorkie
by: Patty

My Yorkie (Katie) is 9 yrs. old. I got her when she was 6 weeks. I bought a dog litterbox and put newspaper in it, instead of dog litter because I was afraid she'd choke on it. When I saw her starting to circle like she had to go, I would put her in the box and she would do her business. Then I would reward her with a Cheerio. It took 2 days and she was litterbox trained. Yorkies are extremely smart dogs. I caught her once, while training her, pretending to wet in her box. She came running out and looked at me and up at the closet where the Cheerios were. After having many breeds of dogs, I don't think I would ever get another dog other than a Yorkie. This little girl is such a joy to me. My friends and family say she's almost human the way she knows words and how she behaves.

Puppy Potty Issues

My 8 month old Yorkie still has accidents in the house even though she does her business outside too.

I worry that she will never be completely trained to let me know when she has to go outside.

I am so looking forward to the time when I can give her complete freedom of our home and truly enjoy her to the fullest.

She is such a delightful little dog and I would love her to have more freedom BUT our home is NOT a toilet!

I'm a bit concerned that she will never get the hang of it. Can anyone give me some hopeful advise?
