12 year old yorkie has loose bowels

Question

I have had my yorkshire terrier for 12 years. He is in good health and has been well taken care of.

Lately he has had potty accidents and his bowel has been loose.

After his last accident, I bought a cage so that when I leave him alone I won't have to worry about him messing up the carpet.

Soon after returning with the cage, he went out and has not returned.

He's been gone now for over 12 hours. I don't know what to think!

Any suggestions? Help...I'm worried sick.

Answer

While Yorkies do live to be quite old, 12 years is starting to really get up there in dog years.

The bowel condition may have to do with age, or there could be another underlying illness involved.

The only way to know for certain is to take him to the vet.

The fact that he did not return home probably has more to do with his age than anything else.

It is possible that he simply lost his way and could not figure out how to get home.

It is probably a coincidence that it happened right after you brought a dog crate home.

If he is still missing, all you can do at this point is wait and check with local animal shelters to see if he was brought in.

He may be waiting for you to find him. I sincerely hope that he turns up very soon.
